Two landmark Abu Dhabi resorts win Russian Travel Awards


Two of Abu Dhabi’s landmark hotels — the opulent Emirates Palace and the unique Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara — have been voted among Russian travellers’ most preferred luxury accommodation in the 2010 Russian Travel Awards announced in Moscow. The award results were culled from an online poll of 100,000 Russian travellers.

Double digit traffic growth in April


Passenger throughput at Abu Dhabi International Airport increased by 15% in April compared to the same month last year, with a total of 996,000 passengers using the airport.

Both O&D and transfer traffic experienced double digit growth, with O&D increasing at 11% and transfer at 13%; O&D traffic now represents 47% of total traffic.

Yemenia Airways starts additional flight from Abu Dhabi to Sana’a


Yemenia Airways will be starting an additional flight from Abu Dhabi to Sanaa from 17th June 2011. The new frequency brings the total flights for the airline at Abu Dhabi International Airport to 4 weekly, servicing 4 destinations in Yemen. The additional flight will be operated with one of the two new aircraft that were recently added to the airline’s fleet, with another eight more aircraft due to join Yemenia in the coming months.

Improved air traffic access into Abu Dhabi


Good news with regards to airspace issues. The opening of a new airway has been agreed between the UAE and Bahrain, which will help facilitate the continued rapid growth in air traffic movements into and out of Abu Dhabi and the UAE, from Bahrain airspace. This will improve air traffic flows for flights at Abu Dhabi International Airport not only from the Middle East, but also from Europe and North America.

Abu Dhabi’s future economy taking shape at freezone


Planned Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD) expected to be two thirds the size of Singapore. More than 100 companies have applied to set up operations there so far, and more than 25 per cent of those have been given preliminary approval. Phase 1A is due to open by the end of next year.
