Abu Dhabi Tourists Increase by 10%


According to Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), the number of tourists in Abu Dhabi rose 10% during the first five months of this year, while revenues increased by 6% over the same period last year.

During this period, hotels in Abu Dhabi had 866,501 guests, staying a total of 2.6 million guest nights. Furthermore, revenues rose to $517 million, and the average hotel occupancy rate jumped to 71% of capacity, an increase of 10% over the same period last year.

The Volvo Ocean Race comes to Abu Dhabi


Regarded as the ‘Everest of sailing’, the Volvo Ocean Race is run every four years as a grueling 39,000 mile round the world yacht race; testing the skills, physical endurance and competitiveness of the professional crews.

For the first time the Middle East will play host to the fleet, with Abu Dhabi included as the second stop for the 2011-12 competition. The race is scheduled to arrive in Abu Dhabi on the 30th December 2011 for a fantastic New Years Eve celebration after a long 5,430 mile journey from Cape Town. The fleet then remains in port until 14th January 2012 when the race continues on to Sanya.

It’s official. Abu Dhabi Corniche Beach is the first in the Arabic Gulf Region to be awarded internationally recognised Blue Flag status


Abu Dhabi Corniche Beach is the first and only beach in the Arabic Gulf region to be awarded the internationally recognised Blue Flag for beaches and marinas; a certification based on compliance with 32 strict critea.

Launched in 1987, the Blue Flag Programme is a voluntary eco-label acknowledged by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and is implemented in more than 3,550 beaches and marinas in around 40 countries worldwide. It is only awarded to beaches which meet all 32 stringent international standards including environmental management, information and education, water quality, public safety and services.

Abu Dhabi to bring subtantial number of new hotels online over next 4 years


The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority’s (ADTA) latest Development Register identifies 49 new hotels/hotel apartments to be developed over the next 4 years in Abu Dhabi. This will have the potential to deliver an additional 17,000+ rooms to the existing 18,800 rooms currently available; an impressive growth of 92%. Although Abu Dhabi is set to welcome high end brands such as the Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis and the Four Seasons, there will also be a good mix of 3 & 4 star hotels.
